Fate. Hate. Love. Lies.

This is my first toe dip into the world of J. Daniels. The blurb doesn’t give too much away, and it quickly got straight into the main crux of the story. Even though you could guess what was coming, it still kept you interested. The main characters were solid, relate-able and the sub characters added to the overall enjoyment.

However, the narration on the audio was a little off putting, I thought Kate Russell did a great job with Sydney, and when she voiced Brian. I found her voice to be better then Sebastian York, I could have listened to the whole book with Kate’s voice as single narration and enjoyed it a whole lot more. I know people bill him as “The King of Aural”, stacks of authors use him, but I find his voice very mature, At some points I felt like I was listening to my dad (who’s 72 and British, but you know what I mean), as Brian he sounded too old, way beyond his years, and not the hip part-owner of a surf shop, who hangs out with the boys at weekends. But I’m wishing now I had read the book, I think it would have gained an extra half star from me.

I’m looking forward to reading Jamie and Tori’s story in Hit the Spot, judging by the cat and mouse we’ve already glimpsed in Four Letter Word with them, it’s going to be a hot fun read

All the Wild and Ugly Things by Bryn Greenwood

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things
All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I listened to this on audio, and it’s a story that as a mother of a 12 year old girl, I probably shouldn’t have been able to see through the ugly to the wonderful, but it was such a cleverly crafted book. Bryn really tackled the whole boundary of what is love vs pedophilia, drug abuse, child neglect, family strains, death, it’s not for the fainthearted, as it deals with some very difficult and complex circumstances, however, it was a very compelling story.

Playboy Pilot by Penelope Ward

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh wow, how I love Carter, he is my new favourite Vi/Penelope alpha. I listened to Playboy Pilot on Audible, and the story sucked me in. I loved everything about it, I wanted to slap sun screen on, pop on my Ray-Bans, a floaty sundress and hit the unbeaten paths of Rio and Dubai. Great book, especially loved the concept of Carter and Silver Shores, which reminded me of Cocoon, one of my favourite movies. Well done ladies!!!!

Real by Katy Evans – Audible

AUDIBLE REVIEW REAL BY Katy Evans ~ Lynsey

Real is the first book in the REAL series by Katy. I’ve listened to her Manwhore and Ladies Man series, so I knew the narration would be on point, and Charlotte Penfield nailed it, she captured the emotion of both Brooke and Remy perfectly, her voice was so easy to listen to and absorb yourself in the story.

Book content, I really enjoyed, especially when talking about Remy’s time in the ring. I’ve read a few MMA books, yet they say nothing about the fighting and just gloss over. I even had to remind myself I couldn’t look for Brooke’s accident on YouTube, it’s fiction Lynsey F.I.C.T.I.O.N.

I’m looking forward to starting the next book (via audio) in the series, and continuing on the Riptide adventure, Mine.
