I thought I’d left Blackwater, Texas behind for good. I didn’t belong in the small town, but my dad wouldn’t listen. He dragged me back home in his beat-up truck and dropped a bomb along the way: Chase Matthews was moving in with us. He was the golden boy of my high school, my former best friend, and the last person I wanted sleeping across the hall. His presence was too great a reminder of the ghosts I was trying to forget.
I didn’t ask for a hero. I don’t want to be saved.
To me, Lilah Calloway meant late nights sneakin’ out, moonlit hair, and sparklers in July. She was my best friend until the day she left and I’d assumed Blackwater had seen the last of her. Then, like a tempest, she rolled back into town for the final half of senior year. The chopped hair and dark devil-may-care attitude warned most people away, but I knew if I fought hard enough, I could find the lost girl.
I didn’t want to be her hero. Some girls don’t need to be saved.
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way, I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things… everyday.
I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors include Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things “funny”. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Life, Love, Laughter.

Three things I never expected to experience in the month of giving thanks, but that is just what I received. Wes had survived Hell on Earth, and was back where he was meant to be…in my arms and my bed. For good. There would be no breaking us apart after the trauma we experienced up to this point.

My new job with Century Production sent me to the big apple to interview celebrities for a special segment on being thankful. What is a girl to do when she has an entire host of celebrity friends from her past year of travels? You better believe I called up my friends Mason Murphy, all-star pitcher for the Red Sox, and Anton Santiago, the Latin Lov-ah, to participate. They were all too happy to oblige, only my guy’s feathers were a bit ruffled by the ease with which they came running.

Add in my new family and you’ve got a fairytale Thanksgiving. Except for one tiny detail…the single seat at the table, left open by the hole in my heart that only one person could fill.

In the eleventh book of the Calendar Girl serial, Mia is off to New York City to film a segment for her new job. Now that her debt has been paid, and the threat from her ex is gone, she no longer has to live life as an escort. Only life has thrown her some new challenges to round out her year.

Each installment in the Calendar Girl Serial will release every month throughout 2015.

Warning: This book is designed for audiences 18+ due to language and graphic sexual content.

But then we were ripped apart and Blake Weston became the memory I turned to when everything else in my life fell apart.

Seven years later, a summer working at Camp Chance is supposed to be my fresh start. Beautiful scenery and the chance to better the lives of foster children–kids like me. But when my eyes land on him across the fire, time stands still and feelings come rushing back to the surface. I thought I’d moved on, tucked him away in my heart. It’s our second chance. A sign we are supposed to be together.

Isn’t it?

Excerpt

Marissa didn’t follow me. It was most likely she had pieced together our story after Blake’s song. How could she not? It was as if he had weaved our entire relationship into his lyrics. I could feel his sixteen-year-old self singing every line to my sixteen-year-old self. Although, I was pretty certain the sixteen-year-old Blake I’d known then had no clue how to play the guitar.

After washing the tearstains from my face, I brushed my teeth. It was still early, but I couldn’t face going back out there, so I changed into my shorts and tank top and climbed into bed. Sleep would be impossible, but at least here, I was safe.

Most people felt lonely in solitude, but I welcomed the silence. I embraced it even. Something about the quiet, the knowledge no one else was around, comforted me. I knew it made me different. I didn’t need a shrink to tell me that, but it didn’t change the fact that I found sanctuary in being alone.

I lay there not really allowing myself to think. Thinking was dangerous; it led to remembering, and my memories were stained with pain and hurt and the kinds of things that made most people’s nightmares look like a walk in the park. Instead, I tracked the uneven cabin ceiling. My eyes followed the planes of the wood from one end to the other and back again until they grew heavy.

A knock on the door startled me sending my already restless heart into overdrive and I rubbed at my eyes.

“Hello?” I called out hoping to hear Marissa’s voice, but I knew it wasn’t her. She wouldn’t have knocked; she would have barged right in and demanded answers.

“Penny, it’s me.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, but my mind betrayed me as an image of Blake’s face filled my head.

Another knock.

“Penny.”

Forcing myself to sit up, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. He wasn’t going away. Blake—our connection—was something I was going to have to deal with sooner or later, and from Blake’s admissions over the last few days, it seemed that he was making the decision for me.

My legs were like lead as I walked to the door. It swung open and Blake stood there looking at me with such reverence in his eyes I almost crumpled. Maybe I did crumple because, before my head had time to process what was happening, I was in Blake’s arms, and he was holding on to me like he needed me to breathe.

“I’ve missed you so much. I’ve tried to stay away, to give you space, but I can’t. I can’t spend another day feeling like you might slip through my fingers again.”

One of Blake’s hands buried itself in my hair and cradled my head holding me to him. My face pressed up against the collar of his hoodie, and I breathed him in. He smelled familiar, like damp grass and fresh air, of a time when things were less complicated, and my heart ached for us. At that moment, we weren’t two strangers reunited by chance; we were sixteen-year-old Blake and Penny.

And we needed each other to survive.

Careful What You Wish For, Michelle Escamilla

Careful What You Wish For: Not Your Average FairytaleCareful What You Wish For: Not Your Average Fairytale by Michelle Escamilla

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

FEEL GOOD READ 4 STARS

No Spoiler Review
This is a first for me by this author, I wasn’t sure what I was in the mood for scanning my Kindle library, something light hearted and easy, Careful What You Wished For turned out to be the perfect mix. It’s been on my Kindle awhile, and to be honest I had no clue what it was about, I originally settled on it just for the cover (I’m easily pleased). So I snugged down in my bed and let the fairytale begin. Every girls dream is to meet Prince Charming, and Harley Simpson did just that, her boss Ethan Prince, he was everything Harley wanted in her Prince Charming, she envisioned life in the future, marriage and kids, then she woke up… Careful What You Wish For had a touch of 2 of my favourite childhood movies Big and Scrooged, Harley was an entertaining character, she was fun, lively and passionate, but further into the story she added to those qualities with compassion and maturity, and it was a very enjoyable read that I finished in one sitting ~ Lynsey x

Falling For Crazy (Moroad Motorcycle Club, #5)Falling For Crazy by Debra Kayn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 revving stars ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮

No Spoiler Review ~ Lynsey

I agreed to review even though I wasn’t familiar with the Moroad Motorcycle Club series, I was told this was a standalone, and thanks to Nina Levine, Beth Flynn and Jani Kay, I’ve become a bit partial to a MC badboy in his cut so in I dove.

Having not met Jacko before I got to grip with his character after a few chapters, I found it a little hard going to begin with like most MC characters you love to hate them. He’s kind of crazy but that’s because no one has ever got to dig deep and get to know the real him, queue Amy O’Harris. I don’t want to give away spoilers, as I’m also going to read the previous 4 books in the series as I understand the characters cross over, so to get to know the history a little better, but let’s say Amy and Jacko have some pretty wacko history. Amy comes back into Jacko’s life and he needs to save hers but can he do that whilst feeling all sorts of conflict and emotion, he was once in love with her sister, now he wants Amy and will do anything to protect her. I really enjoyed Falling For Crazy, fan’s of MC series will love it, it’s certainly holds it’s own.

The bestselling Moroad Motorcycle Club series continues with a standalone novel…
As a member of the Moroad Motorcycle Club, Jacko has been called a lot of things.
Killer
Insane
Sick
Jacko owns the odd behavior, the detachment, the recklessness he’s earned from his years locked away in the Idaho State Penitentiary. His desperate hold on seeking revenge on the remaining Reds and Los Li members responsible for killing Sarah keep him looking straight ahead, and to the sides. He only needs to kill two more men, and then he’ll gladly walk back into prison to spend his days in solitary.
Burned out of her house and homeless for two weeks, Amy O’Harris searches from the shadows in the Silver Valley for Jacko— the only man who can help her stay safe. When Jacko saves her as she runs away from danger, her relief is short-lived. The change in Jacko’s personality frightens her. He’s no longer the silent, smart, easy-going biker she remembers loving her sister, Sarah. Jacko’s damaged behavior screams out for her to stay with him, until she questions her own sanity and doubts every word out of Jacko’s mouth.

Misch stared up at him, simply amazed. She couldn’t believe he was there, sitting next to her. Bubble, officially burst. Mr. Tal Canaan was a real life man, flesh and blood, not some fantasy to be locked away in some hotel room, shoved to the back of her brain. And the fantasy-come-to-life sitting next to her happened to be dressed up, as well. Sexy didn’t cover how he looked that evening.

“Tal, we can’t do this,” Misch lowered her voice. “You did me a huge favor the other night, really. I appreciate it, more than I can say. But it ended in that room.”

His hand moved off of her hip and across her lap. Came to rest on her bare thigh. Her voice caught in her throat.

“Oh, no. No, I don’t think so. I don’t think it ended at all. I think it’s still very much going on,” he breathed, sliding his hand up, moving the skirt of her dress out of the way.

“Tal, please,” she whimpered.

Whimpering. The man makes me whimper.

“Ah, there’s that word I love.”

“My boss could walk up any minute,” she hissed, pressing herself back into the cushioned booth, trying to gain some distance.

“Don’t worry about your boss,” Tal whispered, dipping his head and kissing her temple.

“We can’t. He knows I’m married,” she whispered back, squirming as Tal’s hand pushed the last bit of material out of the way. If a waiter popped up, he’d have a great view of Misch’s hot pink underwear.

“I told you, don’t worry.”

“Don’t worry!? How can I not -,”

She gasped as his thumb slid under the crotch of her panties. While her lips were parted, he dove in, kissing her hard. She moaned, welcoming him. Fuck, she’d cook him dinner and rub his feet, if he’d just keep touching her. Just keep wanting her.

“I love that you’re always so ready for me,” he pulled away to laugh at her. She gripped onto his arm.

“Oh my god, I’m gonna get fired,” she panted, but made no move to stop him. His thumb was ridiculously dexterous; she wondered if he was double jointed. It swam in circles, making her dizzy.

“You won’t get fired, I promise,” he had his sly smile on, and he actually rested an elbow on the back of the booth, propping his cheek against his fist. His relaxation actually made her more aware of their surroundings. She was sitting in the middle of a nice restaurant, waiting for her boss, and she had a man’s thumb in her crotch.

Slut.

“Someone’s going to see us. Please.”

“You know what’s funny,” he ignored her. “This really wasn’t my plan when I decided to come here. I thought we could have a drink, talk. I could watch you laugh. You have a great laugh. But then I sat down, and you’re wearing this amazing dress, showing those amazing legs, and well, here we are.”

“I don’t want to be doing this,” she begged.

“Why not?”

“Because,” she couldn’t finish the sentence. Didn’t want to say it out loud. Wanted to pretend that she was begging him to stop for the right reasons.

“Because why?”

I’m such an awful person.

“Because I’m …“

“Since our night together,” he whispered, “this is all I’ve thought about. All I’ve wanted to do. From this point on, you’re going to be the only person I fuck while I’m here.”

“Tal, please, I’m going to … I’m about to …,” she couldn’t catch her breath. She was too busy trying to stave off a huge orgasm.

“Shhhh,” he shushed her. Then his thumb was gone. He pulled his fingers free of her underwear, ran it up her body. Rested his hand against the side of her jaw. She was breathing heavily through her nose, staring up at him. He stared right back and pressed his dewy thumb against her bottom lip. Traced it back and forth.

Resistance is so fucking futile.

“What are you doing to me?” she whispered. He smiled, then stuck his thumb in his mouth, sucking her wetness away.

“Anything you want, babe. Come find me,” he whispered back.

Then he was sliding out of his seat. Walking away.

Misch dropped her head back on the booth, tried to catch her breath. She pressed a hand to her chest and gulped in air. She had thought the night was going to be boring. Shmoozing their international partners, talking about insurance, trying to tell bad jokes in broken Italian. Getting off in the middle of a crowded dining room hadn’t been part of the plan.

Mr. Canaan had never been part of the plan.

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since … forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball – I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I’m clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don’t trust anyone who doesn’t drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there’s your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair – both a curse and a blessing – and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can’t understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.
